Amazon ACX

I received a promotional email earlier about Amazon ACX (or Audiobook Creation Exchange). Perhaps you’ve heard of it. If not, we’re in the same boat. Curiosity got the best of me and I spent a little time cruising around the site, getting a feel for what it’s all about.

Basically, if you don’t care to click on the link, I’ll give you the TL Stimac version: it allows you to create and distribute an audiobook.

The more in depth response would be that you can either record your own audio for your book or hire a professional directly through the site. Just like KDP, the author (or Account Holder) receives a portion of the royalties based upon the decided price.

As a new indie author, audiobooks are something that I haven’t really looked into. I have used Createspace and KDP to get my book out there, but never really gave much thought to the audio side of it. I guess my naive opinion was that audiobooks were for the pros…authors with the Big Six backing them that would shell out the money for a professional voice-book-recorder-person. Yeah.

Well, it turns out that Amazon has given indie authors yet another tool for their DIY arsenal. I must say that the thought of having my book out there in audio format is appealing; heck, it may be the only way for my husband to actually read the whole thing! 😉

So, as I am contemplating giving it a try, I’m curios. Has anyone else used ACX? What are your thoughts? Are audiobooks necessary? Would it be worth the time and effort?

Definitely something to think about.

Until next time. . .

The final Sunday Seven for July 2013…here we go!

1. Life has felt ten kinds of busy this week. Between my “real job” and other everyday obligations, I have felt a little stretched at both ends. Because of this, not a lot of productivity in the writing world has happened. :/  Hoping to change that this week.

2. Still reveling in the feedback I have been receiving for Trusted. Some reviews and comments make me want to scream from the rooftops like a giddy little girl at how grateful I am to have written a book that people enjoy. Some reviews make me want to stab my eyes out with a blunt pencil, but we won’t talk about those.

3. I enjoyed spending some quality time with my little one this week. We have read many, many books together and “played” AquaBats like fifty times. (By “played”, I mean I have to act out all of the characters. Yes, just like I have to be the voice of Doofenshmirtz from Phineas and Ferb.)

4. My hubby and I went on a hot date Friday night. You know you’re getting old when the “hot date” consists of going to look at furniture. (Hey, you have to make use of your time sans kiddo.) Needless to say, we were like kids in a candy store at the revelation of power recliners.

5. We went fishing with some friends last night and had a great time. The kiddo caught a good sized bass; saying she was pumped is the understatement of the century. 😉

6. Started reading Captivating by John and Stasi Eldredge. It’s great so far; can’t wait to finish it! (Thanks for letting me borrow it, sis!)

7. The kiddo and I were attacked by ants over the weekend. I stepped on a mound of some kind of aggressive Arkansas ant and they went for the kill. 😦  Lots of itchy, yucky stings on our feet. No fun.

Hope you all had a great week!

Until next time. . .

Well, it’s been a while since my last Sunday Seven. I’m feeling this one may be a “combined-over-the-last-few-weeks” edition.

Nevertheless… let’s do this!

1. The playhouse is finished! Need I say more? What a beast it was to build! The look on the little one’s face, however…priceless. Check out a couple of pics HERE.

2. We went ice skating for the first time. It was an experience to say the least. 🙂  My hubby was out there skating like a pro while the little one and I hovered close to the edge.  Safety first, people.  We had a great time, but I don’t think we’ll be going again any time soon.

3. I’ve gotten several great reviews (and one not-so-great) of Trusted. I’m so glad that people are enjoying it. (Well, most of them.) If you’ve read it, let me know what you think! If you’d like to read it, contact me. Let’s talk.

4. My family was plagued with an awful stomach virus last week. 😦 It started with me, moved on to the little one, and then finally got a hold of my hubby. It was rough stuff. Last week is still kind of a blur.

5. It’s nearly back to school time! I’ve always loved this time of year. There’s something about buying office supplies at insanely low prices that just makes me smile. I always hoard notebooks, binders, pens, and pencils by the dozen. It must be the writer in me.

6. The summer reading program at the library is finally coming to an end. Don’t get me wrong; I love and encourage reading but it has been a huge pain trying to keep up with everything little missy has read. She checks out at least 10 books at a time and we sometimes visit the library a few times a week. Yeah. Like I said, I’m glad the program is over.

7. Only 5 more weeks until the final season of Breaking Bad. (I know, it’s not really an event that happened, but with the sickness and all, not a whole lot went down. AND, I’m really excited to find out what happens to Walt.)

I leave you with this:

Until next time. . .

So, it happened. . .

My first less-than-great review.

It was inevitable, I suppose. I mean, I had it coming. Nearly a month now, and everything has been rainbows and sunshine. “I am author, hear me roar!”

Yeah, well. LOL  I have to admit, having someone not like your “baby” (aka book) just kind of sucks. :/ Such is life, though, right? The important thing is that I read the review, took from it the value it contained, and didn’t punch anything or cry. I realized that the very thing I feared the most in the beginning … criticism… didn’t crush me. I faced it today. And you know what? I’m okay. 🙂

So, even though the culmination of a bad review/the whole family being plagued by a wretched stomach virus/PMS/life-in-general tried to ruin my day, I’m still smiling.

These articles helped a little too:

Okay, I’m done lamenting. Back to reality.

On a more positive note, we finally finished the munchkin’s playhouse and she loves it! Below are some pics. Enjoy! 🙂

So, basically for the past two weeks I have felt like this:

image

It seems like there are a million different things on my plate and I haven’t been able to zero in and accomplish any of them. Writing has been on the back burner as has housework, CR, and every other invaluable thing. Why? I’m still trying to figure that out.

Praying that I can get back on track this week. Here’s to clean houses, thousands of words written, and clear minds. Here, here!

Hope you all have a productive week as well!

Until next time. . .
