I was browsing back through my blog posts today and noticed that it has been ages since I have done a Sunday Seven post! 😦 (Or any post for that matter!) I loved doing these as they helped me create a log of my week’s adventures as well as held me accountable to weekly blogging. Well, as you all know, life just gets bananas sometimes.

So, it’s not Sunday and I probably don’t have enough time to list seven things, but here’s a little update anyhow:

1. Got a new haircut today. Woot! Woot! It’s a short, summery ‘do, Kind of like this, but much more glamorous of course! 😉

2. I haven’t gotten to work on Broken much lately which I’m totally bummed about; I have, however, cleaned my house and car, crafted,  set a trap to catch a cat for the kiddo, went on a nice walk, tuned my guitar, sorted out the laundry room, vacuumed at least 15 times, oh, did I mention I got a haircut?

3. School has been crazy busy with testing just around the corner. This girl is ready for a vacation!

4. I’ve obsessively watched an entire season of My Cat From Hell. I totally feel like I could be a cat whisperer now.

5. I’ve made my own laundry soap, fabric softener, shampoo, candles, and a clay pot heater. Don’t ask.

Okay, I feel better now that I’ve blogged. I hope you all have been more productive with your craft lately than I have. Happy writing!

Until next time. . .

So, life has been busy lately and I haven’t got to sit down to blog in quite a while. I’ve done a Goodreads Q&A session, the Broncos were obliterated in the Super Bowl, I’ve made some progress on Broken, and the groundhog saw his shadow. I’d say a lot has happened; lets catch up, shall we?

-I got the chance to do an awesome live Q&A on Goodreads. You can check out the conversation here. It was so much fun!

-The writing group I am a part of (The Greenwood Writer’s Group) has asked me to put together a page so we can invite new members! So, if you’re in the Greenwood area, come on out and join us!

-We are also gearing up for our first annual writers event! The Writers Unite Charity Event and Booksigning will take place on Oct. 25. Click the link for all the details! (There’s also a really cool Writing Contest we are hosting for students in grades 3-8!)

-I am working away on Broken (Book 3 in The Trusted Series) and hope to have it finished soon!

-I am considering entering Trusted and Destined in the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award. Considering is the key word. Any suggestions on this?

-I filed my taxes! (I know, not that exciting, but it took forever and I’m glad it’s done!) Also, this was the first year I got to add “Author” as part of my occupation. 🙂

-We got a new puppy! His name is Hunter. 🙂 He’s a Catahoula and although I wasn’t thrilled about another dog at first, I have to admit he’s growing on me.

And, I’m certain there has been a ton of other stuff that has kept me from blogging, but that’s the gist of it. Just checking in to let everyone know I’m still alive and kickin’.

In the mean time, here is my new motto:

Until next time. . .

Since I finished editing Destined this week (Oh yeah, you heard that right!) and am planning to release it in just a few short days, I thought I would take a moment and share with you some of the music that inspired the book. Please notice that I said “I thought”. 😦

Who knew it could be so hard to share a stinkin’ playlist?! In this day and age, I assumed it would be mucho simple. Unless my Googling skills have recently been sub-par lately, I couldn’t find a reputable site to use to embed a playlist. 😦 I finally found a glimmer of home in, however, most of the songs I wanted to use were not available.

I spent half an hour and got this:

–It’s probably just a big blank spot for most of you–

You can see the whole six songs it allowed me to choose by clicking here:

For your convenience, however, I have gone ahead and listed them below. Sorry they’re not clickable or actually playing. Maybe someone can enlighten me on a simple playlist sharing site??

Anyhow, here are just a few of the songs behind Destined. Enjoy!

Destined Playlist

  • Girl Like That, Matchbox 20
  • Hello, Goodnight, The Aquabats!
  • I’ll Be, Edwin McCain

Until next time. . .

Finally, it has happened! I am officially a paid author! (Woot! Woot!)

For those who may not know, I accomplished a lifelong dream in and of itself in June by publishing my very first book. Now that Amazon’s 90 day waiting period has passed, I finally received my first payment!!!!

And, as promised, in this post, I did in fact buy some new pillows:

Yup, they’re new and plushy and wonderful and they’re all because of YOU!

Thank you so much to anyone that bought a copy! I appreciate (as does anyone that visits my house and has had to experience my last pillows) you so, so much!

I am beyond excited. Not only has  a dream came true, but it is paying off…literally. 🙂

Okay, I’m going to go cuddle up with my new pillows and watch the finale of Breaking Bad now.

Life is good.

Until next time. . .

Word of the Day

Today, I endured several lengthy meetings at work.

I survived. But just barely.

Throughout the day, though, I kept hearing the overuse of a certain word. This word is not a typical one in my vocabulary. Even on the long drive home, I heard the word used by a deejay on the radio. Everywhere I went, the word seemed to haunt me.

So, what’s the word?

It sounds so fancy doesn’t it?

Being an English major and all, I like to think I immediately knew what it meant. Given the fact that it was used out of context quite a few times today, I don’t feel so silly.

Just so we’re all clear:

noun \ˈka-vē-ˌät, -ˌat; ˈkä-vē-ˌät; ˈkā-vē-ˌat\

Definition of CAVEAT
: a warning enjoining one from certain acts or practices

: an explanation to prevent misinterpretation

: a modifying or cautionary detail to be considered when evaluating, interpreting, or doing something

: a legal warning to a judicial officer to suspend a proceeding until the opposition has a hearing
So, there you go. The word has swished around in my head all day; now I’m sharing the love.
You’re welcome. 😉
As a side note, I’m thinking of sneaking the word into Destined; just for fun.
Until next time. . .

Lately, it feels like I have been completely consumed by distractions. Every fiber in my body wants to finish the sequel to Trusted early, but my mind is just all:

I seriously need to get motivated. What, you ask, have I been distracted by? Oh, well, you name it: work, music, play dates, cleaning the house, and….CRAFTS!

Yup, I said it: CRAFTS. This past week I have been churning out crafts left and right. My latest fetish, miniature faux gumball machines. 🙂

An example (because I’m too distracted at this point to go take a picture of the ones I actually made):

I’ve been creating these puppies like a mad woman! I made one for my brother and sis-in-law’s dog, for my mom, my daughter, a new coworker, the kiddo’s BFF at church…I may end up handing one to the mailman before it’s all said and done. I’m in a crafty frenzy. Seriously, why can’t I get into a writing frenzy?? :/

My poor husband has witnessed me working like this for the past week:

I think I see an end in sight, though. (Thank goodness!)  I’m taking sitting down to write a blog post as a good sign. 😉

Here’s to productive writing! Cheers!

Until next time. . .

Amazon ACX

I received a promotional email earlier about Amazon ACX (or Audiobook Creation Exchange). Perhaps you’ve heard of it. If not, we’re in the same boat. Curiosity got the best of me and I spent a little time cruising around the site, getting a feel for what it’s all about.

Basically, if you don’t care to click on the link, I’ll give you the TL Stimac version: it allows you to create and distribute an audiobook.

The more in depth response would be that you can either record your own audio for your book or hire a professional directly through the site. Just like KDP, the author (or Account Holder) receives a portion of the royalties based upon the decided price.

As a new indie author, audiobooks are something that I haven’t really looked into. I have used Createspace and KDP to get my book out there, but never really gave much thought to the audio side of it. I guess my naive opinion was that audiobooks were for the pros…authors with the Big Six backing them that would shell out the money for a professional voice-book-recorder-person. Yeah.

Well, it turns out that Amazon has given indie authors yet another tool for their DIY arsenal. I must say that the thought of having my book out there in audio format is appealing; heck, it may be the only way for my husband to actually read the whole thing! 😉

So, as I am contemplating giving it a try, I’m curios. Has anyone else used ACX? What are your thoughts? Are audiobooks necessary? Would it be worth the time and effort?

Definitely something to think about.

Until next time. . .
